Bonsai Trees

Hi, i am looking to buuy some bonsai trees as i have redecorated. What types of bonsai tree can i keep indoors? and when do they need watering and feeding?

Having grown Bonsai for a number of years, the first thing to know is that many different shrubs and bushes can be made Bonsai(It actually means planted in a tray). The art (Chinese in origin, rather than Japanese) is simply the miniaturization of the plant by careful (and artful) pruning of branches and roots as well as restricting the growth by forcing the root system to adapt to a small container. One of the most attractive plants that does quite well as Bonsai is the Azalea. Another is Fiscus. The shrub or tree most westerners think of when hearing the word Bonsai is, of course, the varities of Junipers... All may be maintained indoors. Here's an excellent link for in-depth information:

As with Clanad, i've also kept bonsai for many years. The main problem with keeping them is letting them dry out and this is particularly so with indoor trees.

Unfortunatly, indoor bonsai just do not like our dry, warm and often dull house conditions and therefore perish within a few months of purchase.

If you're prepared to keep them on a north facing window sil (no direct sun), mist them twice a day to keep them humid and water up to twice a day, then go for it. Other than that, i'd be inclined to go for Phaelanopsis or moth orchids...they last for months.

Just as an idea, you can grow some nice succulents as bonsai and the money or jade tree (crassula argentea) makes a superb bonsai which loves it hot and dry and in loads of sun.
