I have oldish storage heaters (over 12 years old at least).

Some have started to give off an unpleasant smell - sort of fuming, chemically smell.

What could it be. Is it dangerous. Can it be fixed or should I get new heaters.

Thanks

Unless you've spilled something on them I can't think of anything to make a smell other than maybe the wiring or connections are overheating. These take a lot of current so any fault could cause a fire. I would stongly suggest you get an electrician in to check them over and turn them off until you get the all clear.

I think it is to do with the insulation breaking down which seems to be a compressed powder encapsulated in a woven material.
