You'd need to check if the bougainvillea is frost hardy. I doubt if it is, though, because I've never seen one growing outdoors here in Kent. Ours in in the conservatory which we keep heated through the colder months.
they aren't frost hardy. You can keep them out doors mayish to septemberish depending upon where you live and either keep them warm and growing over the winter (indoors on well lit windowsill or warm greenhouse/conservatory) or cooler and dormant (cool greenhouse)

Bougainvllia is origionally from south Africa but is widely grown in medeterainian countries and those with warm frost free climates.

It can however survive a few degrees of frost and it is posible to grow in warmer parts of the UK, if you have a bright sunny and sheltered position ie a south facing wall it may be well worth giving it a try

You can buy climbers or what i would recomend is a pot-grown "standard" which can be moved if needed to a warmer location ie a green house or conservatory. it is normally available in the usual purple shades or pure white. Good Luck..

In warm weather, we plant them in urns and have them throughout the garden.
