I cant help noticing that the new carpet laid in the interview rooms at my bank a year ago, still looks like brand new despite the volume of heavy traffic upon it. Is there a name for this type of carpeting or is it just 'industrial'. Where would I be able to buy this kind of carpet?

Like you say it is office quality, or very hard wearing. If you go to your local carpet shop, they would help you. It doesn't look too good in your home though !
I suspect it's a really heavy duty carpet. I'm sure it's possible to buy this type of carpet for domestic use, but often it comes with horrible patterns that nobody would be seen dead using in their louge. However, I'm sure it is also made in plain colours and flecks and any good carpet supplier would be able to help you track down something suitable. It will probably be expensive and there's always the dilemma of choosing a colour you can live with if you change your overall room colour scheme as it will probably last for ever and be too expensive to replace !
