I am getting quite a large plasma tv to put above my fireplace, but dont like the fact that it is there as it ruins the look of the room, does anyone have any ideas on how to disguise it??

I can't help you with the disguise, but, as discussed on another thread, you want to be cautious about placing plasma or LCD TV's near heat sources. Assuming you actually use your fireplace, the heat coming out of it could damage or at least lessen expected life of the unit. You'll notice that at the immediate top and bottom of the back of the unit are several louvres. These are cooling vents and air needs to circulate through them since both types generate heat and cause damage. Be especially careful about draping fabric or other items over the area... Best of luck!
I know that some plasma and lcd tv's are made to look like mirrors when they are switched off. Worth looking into if you haven't already bought one.

I suppose you could always create a "false window" slightly larger than the size of the TV screen. Fix a curtain rail on the wall above the screen and add some nice curtains which blend with your room, which you can draw to cover up the TV when not in use.

If the fireplace is actually in use as a heat generating source I'd get some advice first as it sounds rather risky to me to be placing it immediately above it.
