Noisy gas boiler
5 Answers
Why has my Gloworm gas boiler started making loud clanking noises after its recent service whenever it is on? It was completely silent for the first four years of its life and my plumber, who appears to be suffering from temporary deafness, won't acknowledge the problem. Turning the thermostat down makes no difference. The noise is driving us nuts! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks for the responses. The system has been vented and this has not made any difference. Its definitely not a gurgling noise, its a banging clanking sound that echoes all round the house. The boiler is a Glow Worm Hideaway 100 open flue. The noise is coming from inside the boiler itself not the pump. The noise starts when the water temperature approaches the upper thermostat setting and then when the boiler cuts off the noise stops immediately until the next cycle. The higher the thermostat setting on the boiler the louder the noise. The other problem we have following the service is that we cant put the front cover back on or the combustion products discharge safety device trips and the boiler shuts down but I guess this is not connected?
it sounds like you could have a builtup of sludge in the pipework or lime-scale in the heat exchanger.drain down the system add a boiler descaler (ie sentinel x200&x100 inhibitor) & refill this should sort it.but you should also look at your pump again as it might be running but not pumping due to age/ worn parts.
