boiler system flush? price

Hello All, we have been quoted �400.00 to have the boiler and heating system flushed. Has any one else had this done to their heating system? and how much did you pay?

beryllium, If the quote states that the engineer will introduce a cleansing agent into the system a few days before actually flushing the system ( by using a " powerflush - unit " ), then introducing a suitable inhibitor into the system once the powerflushing has proved satisfactory, for a 7 - 10 radiator system, the answer is that � 400 is indeed a good quote.

thank you pilotlight, we are about to embark on a completely new heating system, solar for water and condenser for winter, plus a conditioning type system for softening the water. Just got to get the insulating sorted for the loft!!! and then we're away.....

As Pilotlight says, it depends on what they are going to do for �400. The best I can do is tell you how long it takes and how much the chemicals cost. The first step is to put about �20 of cleanser in the system then run the system hot for at least an hour. Sometimes the chemical is left in the system a few days to allow it to loosen the sludge. Then the system is flushed through several times with clean water until runs clear (about three hours work - have to keep running and and downstairs to bleed and empty the rads). Then introduce inhibitor - about �25 of chemical. If they are doing all that �400 is fair. (You could do it yourself).

thank you buildersmate, we have bled the radiators, as they were noisy ******* and cold at the top, actually 1/2 way down they were cold, and that has helped tremendously. The water was filthy, but now it's clear. I'm presuming by sludge, you're talking about in the bottoms of the radiators?

all told, the whole system we are installing is around �5800 and thats without replacing our old radiators....

i'm reeeeeeally exited about it... funny girl i am!!!

�400 is perhaps a tad on the high side, but not totally unreasonable. You could do it yourself, if you're half-handy; it's not difficult, just a bit tedious and messy.

BTW, I would say a part of the job of fitting a new boiler etc should be to flush out the system. This is to remove any bits of muck/debris left in the pipes during installation, to avoid them causing damage later.
