Newspaper Briquette maker

Does anyone know where I can get one of those briquette makers that makes bricks out of old newspapers to use on a solid fuel fire?

Excellent, thanks SmoothPebble. Do you know how long the briquettes burn for? No point if they're only good for firelighters!

I'm afraid I don't, mormess. Though, having said that, when we bought our house (seven years ago) the previous owners had them burning in the fireplace. They seemed to burn okay, and not too fast. I guess you could try emailing the catalogue people...

No such apparatus known. You make briquettes by hand. Open up the newspaper lengthwise from the middle. Fold the newspaper to the size of a briquette and then fold the other way to make a square briquette then seal with a piece of cellulose tape. Dump all your production into a pale of water and let it dry up in the sun. Once dried your briquettes are ready to burn. It's that simple.

I too have been considering this option for our log burner. Recently saw the type of thing you are on about in one of those annoying catalogues with all manner of mail order stuff in them at my Mothers house (she gets loads fo them). Coat about �20 I can look it up for you if you really want ? For some reason it is the sort of thing I can't find on the web for love nor money? I have read on previous web pages that rather than soaking the 'pulp / briquette' in water, soapey water is better (i.e washing liquid). I am considering constructing a simple press from timber that will make a number of briquettes with one 'press'. any help to you ?
