this is first time i have planted cordyline bit worried bottom leafs are going yellow is this normall

Yes this is quite normal. Let the bottom leaves turn brown then they will either come away from the base of the plant normally or they may need snipping off. This is the way the cordyline actually grows and will continue to do this as it develops its trunk.
