I tried searching the site with no luck but can anyone remember the name of the website which tells you how much a house sold for in you street or area.

There is this one
http://www.hometrack.co.uk/ which is free.
The one I think the one you want is also the one I can't remember either !
However that particular one (whatever it was) is no longer free.They did a trial run with it and then you had to pay to access it. This one should be O.K. though....it brought our property up and what we paid.

I may be leading you "up the wrong street" with that one though. It shows ones that are for sale at the moment with prices and details, perhaps that is not what you want.
