Whilst on holiday in America our room smelt very strongly of tobacco smoke, it got into everything including the bedding. I complained and they said they would put in an ionizer but we would have to be out of our room for an hour and half. could anyone tell me why and if,as we did some days. left the machine on it if it was dangerous to us.as a few days later I went down with terrible bad throat and doctor said I had an upper-resp. infection.

No, Ionisers aren't dangerous, in fact they are very good. Usually they are very good for people with breathing broblems, such as asthmatics. They work by cleaning the air particles, and leave the air cleaner, fresher, and smelling of ozone, a bit like the way the air feels after a thunderstorm.

Hi Postdog many thanks for your reply. It just made me wonder being as we were told not to go to our room for 1.5 hours.thanku
Just a guess, not a scientific sure thing. These things are usually sold with how much air in cubic feet they process through the machine per hour.Maybe someone worked out that all the air in room would have gone through at least once in that time frame. I used an ioniser when my kids were smaller and we lived next a busy road it was brilliant. The only reason I do not use one now is because I live in a wooded area.
