Pyracantha is a fairly fast growing plant which has berries in the winter preceded by pretty white flowers in the autumn. It will certainly cover the side of your house and needs no support.Be warned though it has nasty long thorns so take care when pruning.
Pyracantha planted against a building featured in quite a few subsidence claims I have dealt with. Be careful if you are on shrinkable clay. Anything that covers the side of the house will take up a lot of water and you will have put the roots right next to and under the foundations.
Hydrangea peteolaris a self clinging hydrangea is great against a wall. It has lovely fresh green leaves, pretty white flowers and needs the minimum of pruning. I agree pyracantha also looks nice but getting the pruning can be tricky. Why not have a look at the hydrangea on a gardening site. Good luck.
Ceanothus "Paget Blue" is fast growing and has gorgeous bloom in spring ..early summer and is evergreen .It does need pruning and tidying up after it has bloomed though . You can just go over it with a hedge trimmer.I have this at the side of the house by the porch ....it doesn't cling to the brickwork or eat into it and is drought tolerant.. You may need to plant several along a length of wall though .If we all had bare walls life would be pretty dull.

Thank you all very much. I'll have a think and hopefully plant some at the weekend. You never know i might plant all of them and make sure the Pyracantha is on the wall next to the house not directly next to te house. Cheers guys
