varnish not drying

i have lots of yacht varnish (good quality stuff) i've had it a few years, i used it too varnish my kitchen floor and it took absolutley ages too dry, i thinned it a little with white spirit, it is past it, or what can i do too make it dry quicker

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Good quality varnish is very temperamental stuff and will not dry properly if applied over a surface with the slightest amount of grease or polish. Also, if the varnish is a few years old and has previously been opened some of the the 'driers' in it could have evaporated. What to do ? Well, you could just wait it out - but that could take weeks, or you could remove it now with white spirit while it is still tacky. A very messy job, I'm afarid. Oh, and you should never thin varnish, in my opinion, just make sure it is well stirred or shaken. Good luck.
