Portuguese Laurel - when to prune it?
1 Answers
I have inherited a very large specimen of this evergreen from the Prunus family. It has only just finished flowering. Is it right to prune it now, if I want to get some flowers next year. I thought Prunus' grew flowers on the current season's twig growth. Is this type different?

The usual time to prune is spring, when it can be rejuvenated by hard pruning if necessary. I would do it now, and risk losing a few flowers, if you can leave some of the old wood, at least you would be sure of some flowers, but I think it is better to get the shape and size right. Hope this helps, good luck. H.
