Maggots in roots

I am an enthusiastic 1st time veg grower. As I have a very small plot I am growing container veg. Some of my caulis, purple sprouting, radishes and broceletto have been ruined with little creamy white maggots in the roots. The soil also has what I think are maggot eggs in brown shells.What is this and how can I get rid of them? Any advice much appreciated.

It looks to me that you may have an infestation of cabage root fly.
You could either dispose of the soil in your containers and start afresh, or try treating the plants with a soil insecticide such as chlorpyrifos or lindane. Good Luck. T bird+
