Phoenix Canariensis Palm-Gardeners Question Time!!

Ive just bought one of the above-about 18 inches tall and in a container. 1 label says its hardy-the other says not. Does anyone know if its safe to leave to the mercy of a Pembrokeshire winter or should I bring it in?

I'd bring it in up there. They are frost hardy but a combination of prolonged cold, wet and windy weather will usually prove to be their downfall.

Ideally, a cold greenhouse or conservatory or even a porch would be fine. Us southerners can get away with putting a bundle of fleece in the centre of the palm.

One last word, just be careful of those nasty long spines at the bottom of each frond....evil swines !!!

I'm in Ceredigion, and I wouldn't leave one out all year ..our weather's pretty nasty for everything except the most hardy plants
