In my book its always been The No 1, when I was a kid, we had a lovely tree in the garden until it got silver leaf. You dont seem to see it so much in the shops these days though.
I think it's still the most popular plum. If you look in the fruit & vegetable catalogues from plant growers like Suttons and Dobies you will always find the Victoria Plum listed as the most popular variety to grow. Possibly this is because it is self-fertile and in the smaller gardens which most people have today there's normally only room for one tree. Also, it makes the most delicious jam and is good stewed, so it's a very flexible fruit.
Hi 2243 I work in a garden centre and Vic Plum is the only variety we sell. In my opinon the best. Haven't heard of any new varieties of late. skylight
