Virginia Creeper

Mt son has a Virginia Creeper growing on his front wall of his cottage and the neighbour complains if it grows over his house so my son has to cut it down every few months. Some friends have told us that if you put copper wire down the boundary of the houses it will not grow over it. Has anyone else heard of this method.
