Any ideas on how to keep very daring heron away from my garden pond. I really don't want to cover the pond with netting as I have tall plants growing around and in the middle

Fake Plastic Heron? Probably not very tasteful near an ornamental pond though.
rekstout is right, heron are rarely seen in pairs and are not social (appart from dung the spring!! some thing do take two). A fake heron is a good way to deter them.
....I have heard of occasions where the plastic Heron either..... a) attracts a potential mate or b) becomes a rival and a target for attack!
Try Pink Flamingo?
I was actually thinking of getting a fake plastic version of my brother to try and stop him visiting!
Hi. Have the same problem, and lost a fish only a few weeks ago to hungry heron. The fake one is quite a good idea but watch quality, the paint flakes off on some and the resultant uniform grey shape fools no smart heron! also, move it around a bit - the birds get wise to a static deterrent. If all else fails, and I admit this is the case with me, net the pond. With a few discreet mossy rocks it is not too obvious. ... Oh, or try a shotgun (joke!)!
put fishing line criss- crossed over the pond - heron only fish when having waded into pond - so are obstructed !
Thanks for the replies, I think I will try the fishing line idea. I think it will look less obtrusive.
