Are you sure it is a Yukka ? They cost a fortune in Garden Centres .

Anyway it if it is a Yukka (Yucca) and you live North of Birmingham UK. Just saw off the wood stem. Hollow it out a bit and mother nature will see it off when the frosts arrive.

The description makes it sound more like a TRIFFID. If it is I think from memory the only way was to drop it in salt water. Maybe someone else will confirm this.
