hiya id like to put up a floating shelf (like the ones u get from ikea etc where u cant see anyof the fixings) id like to put it in place of a fireplace i have a gas fire which i use so i was wondering if id be able to put up one of these shelves would be safe etc by the fire, thanks

I gave myself a thicker mantlepiece with one of these. It is 18inches above the fire surround top. I don`t know if it would get too hot any lower.

Any shelf / Mantle must be fitted at the correct distance above the burner/radiants in accordance to the Manufacturer's Instructions. ( Gas Safety Installations & use ) Regulations 1995.
