Hi I have a wall of artex that I want to have skimmed over if possible. The artex is a large design I think they used to called it Blade or Knife design. Would I be able to have it smoothed over I want a flat wall again, if so would it be very costly?

yes any decent plasterer will do this for you. should not be very expensive if only one wall. get 2 or 3 free estimates from local plasterers .it will give you an idea of prices in your area so that you know you are not being ripped off.

thanks blue toon one more thing I was reading up about artex and came across an article about some artex having asbestos in it..... do you know how i can find out if i have this in mine?
as long as you dont scrape it or try and sand it down you are alright .you are right about asbestos being present but it is not in all artex mixtures.mostly the early ones .if you adhere to scraping and sanding advice you should have no problem. hope this helps

what if i decided to do it myself if it was too costly, and use X-TEX what everyone seems to be raving about would appreciate your advice on this one. thanks:)
my advice would be to plaster you will find its not that expensive.by all means try x-tex but in the end you want a wall that is flat and if you dont have the basic skills you will find it difficult to achieve.i tried x-tex on my ceiling and was not impressed with finish. in the end i skimmed it over with plaster finish. wish you well whatever you decide
