living flame fire

To get rid of soot on the back of the fire, where the fake bricks are, i vacuumed it with a brush attachment.

However this has made it look white. How can i restore it to looking black again

You can buy the ceramic coal paint spray from places like B & Q to give you're coals a new lease of life.
You're question should be why is my fire sooting up ! This is a sign of incomplete combustion and oxegen starvation and suggests the fire is in distress and possibly producing the leathal fumes. Check and make sure any air bricks and porpose provided ventilation has not been covered up or is blocked and also get it serviced and checked for safety ASAP.

Thanks Gasman. It wasn't soot in the end - it was just where the heat was affecting the RCF coating and this is normal.

On safety, the fire has an oxygen monitor device AND a flame supervision device - neither have shut down the gas supply so i am sure all is well.

I will go to Bee and Queue to see about the paint you spoke of.

B & Q don't sell the paint.

Instead, I will contact Baxi Fires division.

That is a shame as my local B&Q sell it but it is one of the large mega-warehouse stores so maybe the smaller ones do not do it.. Glad to here it is not sooting up.

Got the paint at the "Plumb centre"

Seems to have done the job. A bit dear at �18.00 for a 400 ml can.
