Daughter wants a white board [wipe clean] for her bedroom, local stationers quoted 156 for a 1200mm x 900mm [the smallest that they do] It's not even magnetic!! Any ideas for something a bit cheaper? Would sticky back plastic [fablon]work ? Or is there a special type of paint? [I only know cos I thought I'd be able to write shopping lists on the fridge door [a good idea at the time] I thought - till I tried to rub it off!! DOH! You can still see it now!

http://www.ikea.co.uk can help. Paulz, I'm probably teaching my grandparent but the really important thing is to make sure that you use the right pens.
Try Isopropyl Alcohol on the fridge door that should get the marks off - you should be able to get some from your local chemists
Just a thought, I believe Amway people use white wipeboards... you could try and contact them somehow or perhaps try ebay. Sorry this is such a vague answer but I'm not really up on buying and selling on the 'net!
Fablon will do -but only for a limited time ,then the plastic gets clogged up with ink that doesnt rub off. The pens you use are very important as some will leave marks even on high quality whiteboards. Ikea are the best bet for low priced boards ,they arent huge - but probably ok for bedroom use.
Homebase do a very good magnetic whiteboard for approx 15. I bought one about 3 weeks ago for my son. It comes with some magnets and a dry wipe pen. When buying pens look for dry wipe, dry write, non-permanent. Don't worry you're not the first and you won't be the last to use a permanent marker on a white board!
To get rid of permanent ink on your white board - follow along the lines of the permanent ink with a dry wipe pen, and then wipe it off immediately before the ink dries and violla! the permanent ink should wipe off along with the dry marker ink.
a sheet of metal sprayed with enamel paint would work well. so would glass (though not magnetic). when teaching my phd students i often use whiteboard pens on the front of fume hoods, which are glass. provided you use the right pens all is wll.
desperately trying to think of some information about whiteboards so i can have an excuse to say hello and how are you.... :-)
