How to kill ceder tree

I have a huge ceder tree in my garden, how can i kill it without anyone finding out it was?

I have a similar problem as I have a giant willow tree that blocks all light into my and my neigbour's house, and the roots are damaging my property.

If I were wanting to finish off a tree that was in my garden without my wife finding out I would get half a dozen copper nails and nail them into it where it would not be noticed.

I am toying with the idea of pouring salt around the base on a fortnightly basis and letting the great british weather do the rest....would this wrok? It really is huge much taller than my house.

copper nails are supposed to do it, or scrape away a little bit of bark and paint with neat path clear, repeat once a week for coupl of months, eventually does it

Has your tree got any sort of preservation order on it? There was a story in the paper recently about a tree with an order on it and when the tree died (assisted by the person whose garden it was in) some sort of tree official from the council turned up and did all sorts of tests (a tree post mortem I guess). The result was that the person was prosecuted.
I have it on good authority that urine kills leylandi (don't ask!) but I don't know if it works on cedars.

Easiest way is to use a sharp knife and cut two parallel lines completely through the bark totally around the trunk, about two inches apart. Peel the bark off and the tree will die shortly.

The size of this tree I think I would have to get the whole street to contribute the urine. We could have a street party? ha ha

If it's not in a Conservation ARea and it doesn't have a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) on it, then just get in a local tree feller who will demolish it and deal with the corpse.
