someone told me a power washer would damage the slabs, is this true.

Our power washer hasn't damaged our paving slabs and I've been using one for years. If you're frightened they will, don't get TOO close.
we use it on decking and it only makes it peel slightly if you put it as close as a couple of mm away. just start off far away and get closer till it starts to come off.
Scrubbing brush, dishwashing liquid, and rinse off.
Woolworths have a pressure washer on special at the moment for 30 quid. I'm going to give it a try.
