Can anyone tell me if it is wise to put date palms into pots, also would hydrangers be ok in pots,

dont know about date palms but my mum has hydrangers in large pots every year and they always look beautiful with masses of blooms.

yes fine for both. Just make sure they are big enough and get plenty of water.
