It's something you'd need to experiment with to get it right. I find that when my hair is short to medium length it appears to get quite greasy, sometimes, people don't realise it but they have bad habits that makes their hair greasy quicker, my friend has a short hair and constantly pushes her hair off her face which makes her hair greasy quicker, do you have habits like that perhaps? They're often an unconscious thing.
I too have greasy hair and have had since my teen years. I still wash it daily when going to work but have found that aveda shampoo, and condidtioner NOT the mint one but the shampure mean that it stays okay for 24 hours now and if I do have to go to work without washing it, a damp and restyle leaves it acceptible if not super. It drives me mad that there are all these things for dry hair and nobody has sorted us out yet!! Aveda is dear to buy but you don't ned to use much, the cheapest I have found it is on http://www.lookfantastic.co.uk
Try and leave your hair an extra day if at all possible, you hair can be trained to stay clean for this amount of time and should adapt to however often it is washed, eg if you wash it every day, it will begin to need washed every day, if you wash it twice a week, this is all it will need. It may not work in every case, but most of the time it should.
Talc makes it look cleaner but i find it still feels dirty and therefore i feel like it looks dirty. Other solutions which I have heard are spraying hairspray on the roots or dabbing the roots with witch hazel. You could also try dry shampoo to save time

dry shampoo although i am finding it harder and harder to come by lately. I dont suffer from greay hair, just roots, which is real annoying as when the bottom of my hair looks all nice and glossy, the roots look minging and i have to wash my whole head for the sake of about 2 inches at my roots!! The things us women must go thru eh???? x
