Flies!!!!!
7 Answers
Hi,
I live in an old Victorian house with my back door opening onto a small yard area. The yard is shady as next door abutts our yrad , coupled with a two story 'outrigger' style extension jutting out. Thankfully our garden extends way beyond this area and we have a gorgeous lawn etc.
My problem is... in this yard space are 2 drains.. a few tubs ( to brighten up this dark area) and my back door and kitchen window... BUT there seem to be a massive swarm of flies that buzz around aimlessly. They do not bother with the plants or drains.. and seem to serve no purpose.. but every day they are there... swarming and hovering and if I open my windows or door .. 5 mins later there are loads of flies in my kitchen. ( worse in summer)
I know this sounds trivial..but I have tried everything... I keep my drains clean and my yard is perfect.
Can any of you ovely people offer any advise as to what to do to get rid
Thanks in advance

they are nothing to do with dead bodies or rotten vegetation etc.

YES YES YES...Ratter
It seems we have a cluster fly problem.
They just zoom around aimlessly outside and seem to love sitting on my upvc window frame.
I try to keep my window closed. .. but in this hot weather they even manage to snaeak through the smallest gap.
Once in.. they just fly high close to the ceiling and chase each other??? sounds wierd i know
Ratter.... do you have a practical solution to this nightmare???

Well Happyjo, there really is nothing you can do yourself apart from killing the odd few that are pestering you. They are most likely living in your loft or behind the fascia board, the only way to get rid of them is to get a Pest Control company to deal with it as the products required are not available over the counter. If you do employ a Pest Control company, make sure you get a price in advance and ensure the treatment is guaranteed. if it is any help, I used to charge 85.00 to treat the loft etc and guarantee my work.
Good luck!!
