Musty smells

Hi, I bought some curtain material and had it stored in a plastic bag in a spare room. Our central heating boiler was faulty and the condensation was dripping onto the bag although I've checked the material and that doesn't have any stains on it so I don't think it got wet. My husband put the bag into the loft about 2 months ago and when I got it down tonight all the material has a really bad musty smell. I want to use the material and wonder how I can get rid of the smell. I can't wash the material as it is a very delicate muslin and will probably ruin it before I have even used it. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get rid of the smell? Thanks.

Wash it by hand in lukewarm water and hang outside on washing line to dry. That will get rid of most smells.
