Is it better to go with a tariff where you pay a standing charge each day and then each unit is cheaper or one where there is no standing charge and each unit is more expensive for a certain amount and then cheaper for the rest? The comparison websites say the price is the same overall?

Each time I've looked into this I've found the same. I don't know why the companies do it - the cost is equal.

Unless you're away a lot then it works out cheaper to have the one without the standing charge (i think)...

If your consumption was extremely low, for whatever reason, then yes, the NSC option would be cheaper.
