dampness in bathroom
4 Answers
I recently had a new shower unit fitted in my bathroom and redecorated. The walls got badly covered in black damp within a very short space of time. I redecorated thinking that perhaps the decorator had not used bathroom paint. I have noticed that within a matter of 2 weeks my walls are getting a bad coating of black sooty like damp again. My window is open constantly as i don't have an extractor fan fitted. What i find strange is that although we have a shower unit now fitted we also always had a shower over tha bath and never experienced this level of dampness. Can you please advise the best course of action.

Try something like Dettox mould and mildew remover (used to be a green trigger pack) to remove and kill the spores) better ventilation might prevent recurrence or regular wiping of the walls with a fungicidal wash - if the walls can take it.
The problem is that you often think you have cleaned the mold away, but the spores are notoriously difficult to shift, they will lie dormant in dry conditions and then spring back to life if it gets damp again. The stuff mentioned above might do it, a strong bleach solution works in my bathroom, but you will need to repeat the job periodically.
