Has anyone any idea as to whether mattress shops have a returns policy if the mattress you buy is not suitable after all?? I have been told there is such a policy but not sure if its true. We bought one a month ago, a memory foam one and try as I may I cannot get on with it. I have Repetitive Strain injury in both shoulders and so need better support.

Did you tell the salesperson about your RSI and did you buy that particular mattress on the advice of the salesperson? If so, you MAY have an argument for it not being fit for the purpose you bought it, but frankly it is unlikely, especially as you have allowed a month to lapse.
I suggest you contact the shop and tell them you have given the mattress a fair trial but it really is unsuitable for your needs. See what they say.
Some companies do sell mattresses on a return if not satisfied basis, but that is not the norm.

I recently bought a mattress and a bed frame. Had to pay extra 40 for the mattress on top of its cost - salesperson said it was a form of insurance in case the mattress proved to be uncomfortable and needed to be returned.
I asked if they would knock the 40 off because I had no intention of returning it, but the shop wouldn't budge on it. They said it was their policy to do this with every mattress sold.
