Dying a Cowboy Hat

Not sure if this really fits into home and garden - I've got a fairly cheap cowboy hat, made of cellulose and is currently straw colour. I want to dye it black, cloths dye doesn't seem to work (haven't been able to put it into a washing machine) and hoped someone on here may have a suggestion. Whatever I use needs to be waterproof so that it doesn't run whenever it rains. Thanks

Is the 'JR' in your name a happy coincidence? LOL

Does the hat not fit in the washing machine or is washing it ill advised?

I'm not sure there is anything else you can do other than dye in the machine to be honest.

Advises not to wash in a machine and JR is just a coincidence! Taking it to a festival so don't want to fork out for an expensive one, this one was only a fiver
Well in that case, can you search e-bay for cheap cowboy hats?

You can buy fabric paint but I'm pretty sure that would look ridiculous LOL
Hey there pardner, What festival you a-goin to thyer? I go to quite a few myself?

Going to Glastonbury - was thinking of ebay just a bit concerned about delivery times now.

Also concerned about it not fitting!
Cover it with a black bin liner, I don't mean literaly but cut & paste the bin liner to size.

black gloss paint? may even end up waterproof which would be handy at Glastonbury!
