Hi.I need to do a small repair to the outside of my kitchen window. Some of the paint has cracked and the wood underneath is slightly rotten. My neighbour recommended wood hardener. Can anyone recommend a particular brand and should I use filler first?I'm happy to tackle this myself just need a little advice. Many thanks.

Cuprinol is a good make - you will probably also need to buy an external wood filler (which you use afterwards). You should really cut away any dead and soft wood first, then treat with the hardener finishing off with the wood filler and finally painting or varnishing the window. Be warned though, these products are not cheap !

Thanks so much jugglering..just what I needed. Will have a go when (or if) the weather settles. I looked at the Cuprinol and also Ronseal but was unsure which to use. I reckon both will be cheaper than a new window! Thanks again.

Why go to a lot of expense when you can do it for next to nothing if you have some wood adhesive mixed with some fine sawdust to a paste and fill the hole with that, when it sets, its as hard and longer lasting than the original wood was, and you can screw into it also if required.
