Living in a caravan in garden

I was just wondering if anyone could help me. My boyfriend and I are currently living at his dad's house but we need to move out because his little brother needs our bedroom. Can we live in a caravan in the garden without getting in trouble with the council. We would still use the bathroom in the house and cook some of our meals in there. So really it would be an extension to the house and not a seperate dwelling. The caravan would be tucked away in the back garden and will not be visable to many neighbours. If anyone has any advice that would be great.
