Laminate flooring over 1930s quarry tiles

I intend flooring with laminate over quarry tiles in my 1930s house. Please can you let me know whether it was common prcatice to intstall a damp proof membrane in these floors at this time . If no dpm is present what measures should I put in place to ensure that ther are no problems with damp .

If your quarry tiles are absolutely level you could use this:

Or dig the floor out to make it comply with today's Building Regs, fill with hardcore, insulation, DPM and then concrete.

just out of interest.................if you're going to cover them up anyway, lift a tile and poke about a bit..........there's a slim possibility they were laid in bitumen.........as an adhesive and DPM.............or, there could be bitumen under the screed below the tiles...........worth a shot :o)
