I'm looking for a new kitchen,or an adaptation of an existing one,and would like recommendations. Are there any well-known firms that haven't been slagged off?

Howdens

Ive only ever heard good about them and their units are top quality, my mum and sis bought their units and got a local joiner to fit them

I know a reliable kitchen designer/adapter/fitter. Small outfit with 20 years experience. Where are you?

Bath. I was looking for a known company though as they're cheaper. Has your guy got a web site?
I designed mine online - bought it - and then got a joiner I knew to fit it. No hassle and much cheaper.

What site did you use to design online?
known companies arent always cheaper. I had B&Q, wickes, Homebase and 2 independants quote for a kitchen.

Im going with the independant.
B & Q - you need to register on their site to do it

thanks,I'll have a look ,were the goods good quality?
Ive heard quite a few horror stories about B & Q fitting service, I wouldnt even consider them if it was me
they didn't fit mine - I've heard dreadful things about them as well
I have B & Q units in this flat Ive not long bought and theyre ok but I think the guy who lived here fitted them himself and its a dire job

Handy if you use their website tho then buy someplace else lol
I didn't buy the units from them in the end just used the plans for the joiner to follow. They actually did have some nice units but not quite what I wanted. I found some nicer ones, believe it or not, in Wickes.
Wickes is quite good and often cheaper
ansolutely - I got my fitted bedroom furniture there as well
I recently bought units from Wickes and I am really impressed with the quality
Ime a time served joiner and have fitted hundreds of kitchens from b&q mfi focus to mark wilkinson cotswold kitchens vorgica cuisinier . you can make a low end kitchen look expensive depending on the fitting . But for allround quality howdens and in my opinion use a local joiner but let your joiner order the kitchen becouse howdens is a trade outlet and if your not trade you will get clobberd list price.
definitely - it's the joiner who makes all the difference! A proper tradesman as opposed to a ktchen fitter.

Yes,but how and where do you find these decent tradesmen.?We are looking for a general builder as well as a kitchen man for a few odd jobs and as we have had bad experiences in the past we don't know where to look. We have no local recommmendations at all.
That's why I thought of a kitchen company (as they do it all)
We ordered from Wickes as well and I was very impressed, both with the quality as well as the easy to follow instructions.
About a week before delivery we received a very comprehensive assembly and fitting guide which told you absolutely everything you needed to know, even down to how much space you needed to take delivery of the boxes when they arrived.
They delivered exactly on time and "barcoded" everything out. Not a single screw was missing and the end result is an expensive looking kitchen for a very reasonable price.
I am a time-served brickie who is very capable with most things DIY so I had no problems but I would certainly recommend them to anyone who is reasonably handy with a screwdriver and drill.
I live in Wiltshire and we had a new bathroom last year and it was a company called Alpine Bathroom and Kitchens from Swindon. The Managers name is Mark and he was very good, nothing was too much trouble, we are very pleased with the end result. I think he has a website.

Hope this is of some help.
