rust marks

We have found heavy rust marks on the underside of a mattress. It is on an old iron bedstead, with uncovered springs. We had covered the springs with a heavy material, but unfortunately it has somehow moved, leaving these awful stains. Has any one any ideas as to how to remove them? We would be very grateful, the mattresses are nearly new
