What is it? I have not heard this in the US. PVC is a type of plastic, right - like drain pipes and such? Is uPVC the same thing?

uPVC is Rigid PVC and is sold in the UK for windows and other things. Go figure! I would think it would be an 'R' instead of a 'u'. http://www.rapra.net/bookstore/bookdetails.asp?bid=m211ct

Stands for unexpanded poly vinyl chloride. Same material as PVC but - er - unexpanded!!

Another thing bugging me with this uPVC stuff is that you see in ads, for windows, doors and fascias etc, in abundance, especially in the many freesheets in my area. Sometimes the u is in lowercase like in uPVC and sometimes the c is in lowercase as in UPVc, I wonder which is the correct acronym, and why one of the letters (whichever is correct) needs to be uncapped?

U = Unplasticised

uPVC is made to specific standards ensuring chemical resistance etc.
