new kitchen colour

Im having a new kitchen fitted this week. Its white gloss units with black appliances, floor and worktop.

I want to be able to inject some colour into it with equipment and dinner services etc but i cant seem to decide what colour. I like the aubergine colour but that has been around a while so i dont want to buy lots of stuff only to find it looks very dated quite quickly.

What is the latest colour? or the new must have for kitchens? Anyone know?

I'm interested to see some answers. Mine should be fully completed on Saturday...at long last.

I've played safe so far and have stuck to cream....I might paint the walls a light musky green and all our appliances are silver.

ours is a kitchen diner so im going to have all bar one wall white and then have a bright colour on the last wall.

Im getting all new equipment and like the Delonghi toaster and kettle but the 2 "colours" they do are red and blue.

I think you need a primary colour in there somewhere, either in your blinds or curtains, or on the place mats or table cloth.
Remember that fashion goes out of fashion very quickly!

exactly, carrust. Which is why im wondering what the next great colour is going to be?

No point in blowing £130 on a toaster and kettle only to find that the colour is awful in a year.

They look nice. I like aubergine as well. I don't think colours go out of fashion.

I would stick to plain white for dinner services,they seem to be the "in thing" at the moment and of course will never go out of fashion.
Heritage/retro colours for appliances are quite popular too...such as duck-egg blue,cream etc.

i would go for red, looks lovely with black and white

I decorated a similar kitchen last year. They went for stainless or chrome appliances (kettle, toaster etc). White ceiling in kitchen/bathroom matt. Dulux natural calico walls & a feature wall (chimney breast) in plum. It looked fine! It's much cheaper & easier to change the colour of your walls than your appliances.

because the feature wall is around the corner from the main part of the kitchen i was hoping to bring colour into the main part of room with the kettle and toaster etc.

we had originally thought of putting a band of coloured mosaic in the wall tiles but realise that this wouldnt be easy to change.

I think it may have to be the red, just hoping its going to look ok and not too 80s lol.

i would get the toaster and kettle in black or white and get some accesories - bowls, jugs, tea towels, table runner, blind etc in your chosen colour, then it will be a lot cheaper to change. I like the plum/aubergine colours, but a nice lime green or pistachio would be nice also. Those look really efective next to the white. If you do go for red, a deep red would be nice.

I think red would look good as it's very dramatic........but a vibrant blue looks really good and is slightly less obvious.....

Oh Yes! Colours do go out of fashion. Ten years ago we had a new kitchen installed with all our Appliances in the fashion colour of the time, Almond, to go with the rest. First time an appliance packed up, what is available? Just Silver or white. Stick to white!

androcles, the appliances are already in and all black (apart from fridge and freezer) so no changing that.

plus my cooker is silver . But I may just go for red blinds

Rather than bright red (very 80's) I would go for a burgundy or similar deep red.
