Convert Flat 2 pin plug to 3 pin plug

I was recently brought an appliance which came from america and has a flat two-pin plug on it. I thought i could just convert it easily over to the UK 3 pin like i had done once before with a European socket. However the wires are not colour coded and i am scared that i will blow the electrics in my home. Any easy way to convert without taking this risk!?

If it operates on the American 110 volt system, it won't last long when you plug it into the UK 240 volt mains!

Forget that it won't last long. Just don't do it !!!

You need a step down transformer to convert the UK mains at 230V to the US 115V. A decent electronic outlet should be able to supply one but check the rating (wattage) of the US appliance to ensure any transformer is up to the job.
