Recycling ?
2 Answers
Our recycling depot doesnt have facilities for polystyrene. I had quite a bit recently and had to put in in the rubbish bin. When mentioned to a friend, he said they get loads at work as packaging of the smallest items. Why cant package companies used something else, even rigid cardboard etc which can be recycled. Also biscuit tins and roses chocs tins etc from christmastime. What do they come under for recycling, surely not the same as drinks cans.

We havea doorstep collections for greenstuff, jars/tins/glass/plastic bottles, and paper, but I have kept an eye on the various skips up at the recycling centre (I sound very virtuous, I know!) and now collect metals, batteries, small electrical, and silver foil here at home in 2 separate bins, which I heft up to the tip every couple of months as they fill up.
Yes I share your concern about polystyrene but for packers, it's very light and it can be shaped to fit the item.
What annoys me more up at the dump is people blatantly dumping cardboard, wood, etc., in the non-recycling domestic waste carts - there is often an operator on hand to redirect them but some people just chuck everything away without thought. Our recycling centre is only a short walk from cart to cart - I can't believe how these people can not be bothered to do their bit!

I purchased a metal shed last summer and noticed through the winter that there as a vast amount of condensation on the inside of the roof which was dripping down onto all my electrical garden tools, not good!! So, I'm putting a "wanted" ad. on our local freecycle web site for any polystyrene packaging from white goods, fridges, washing machines etc, which I will cut to fit and wedge inside the roof. Hopefully, this will cure the problem.
