TV Warranty

Extended Warranties, has anyone got any experiences with third party warranties with recommendations on who's good or bad and what to watch out for.

Most modern electricals last years...I'd go with the standard 1 year warranty that you should get when buying.

I have a 5 Year Full parts and Labour Guarantee on my TV so I'm happy with that.........

If one buys from many places (including John Lewis) you get 5 years of warranty as standard these days. TVs are that reliable, you see.
Paying extra for this should be unnecessary - if it isn't offered for nothing, one could always try the tack 'what, are you telling me there's a high probability this TV will breakdown within 5 years then?'

waste of money IMO
ALso - I think that even though the manufacturer warranty is for 12 months - you still have the right to return good that are faulty outside of this if they are deemed that they should last longer than 12 months

Let me here from some AB's who have had things gone wrong and how thier policy insurers dealt with it.

My, my - you are a pessimist. Probability says you have a small chance of anything going wrong - if you buy a decent one. Which means Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi - none of this 'unheard-of-brand' nonsense from the shopping clubs or similar.

buildersmate - someone in the trade stated that the components used in tv nowadays are from a very few manufacturers .

The sets are then badged up for the different brands .

I bought a 37" LG lsd tv and it packed up after 14 months, I was told by the suppliers that because it was out of warranty there was nothing they could do.

I got in touch with Trading Standards and they said that under the "Sale Of Goods Act 1974" any item should be worthy of at least 6 years usage and they emailed me the letter to send to the suppliers.

They still refused to help so the next step was court action, they then offered me a new tv or £450 but Trading Standards said I should refuse and hold out for the full amount of £850, did this and just my luck the bastads went into liquidation and I ended up with fook all, sold the tv on ebay for £50

Warrantys only cover you for internal faults, Guarantees cover you for anything

We bought a new cooker the other day, one year manufacturer's warranty, extended by three years, only £39 - seemed worth it so we bought it. Means we get repairs and callouts over a 4-year period, won't bother after that.
