I have a 1960's tiled fireplace, the tiles are a sort of whitish colour,it houses a really efficient mock coal gasfire, which works well.what can I do to make the surround a bit more modern. To remove the whole thing involves too much for me ,new fire .plastering , new carpet etc, just couldn't cope with all that.Very grateful for all ideas.thanks.

You could try buying some sort of heat proof MDF and making a surround to cover the old one. Thats what I would have done, but the wife made me rip it out. Blood sweat & teers
