haven't wallpapered for years !!! does anyone know hown many drops a roll of paper will do ? Does it vary on different brands ?

it will depend on how high you ceilings are - the length will be on the roll and you just need to know how long your walls are and divide

Hi hammerman, it does make a difference but not so much on the brand of paper but on the pattern that is on it. some have got no match and others have around can have 18 inches. The other part of the question is that most rolls will have between 3 and 4 drops per roll depending on ceiling height.

you lose alot of paper on patterned rolls. Out of a standard 10m roll you can easily lose quarter of that matching the pattern.

Buy 3 or 4 rolls and see how it goes, just make sure plenty more will be available to buy for when you need more.

Thanks guys. No patterns on this wallpaper but we do have a picture rail around the top so the wall paper height is approx 2 m per drop. I'm being a tight a**e really because this stuff is £20 a roll and i want to get it right.

Sorry to disagree Booldawg about how to buy it as you should always get at least as much you will need and even 1 roll extra when you buy. The next time you go back to the store they may have the same pattern in but probably not the same batch number. If you use different batch numbers they will look terrible when on the walls. All the stores I have used will refund your money for unused rolls.

If you get it from B&Q they will give you a refund on any unopened rolls, and the matching batch number thingy is important.

I was always told it was about 3 strips to a roll and I work on that principal...

£20 a roll and no pattern.....is it the fibregalss stuff? If so, you tend to get more coverage per roll because it is wider than standard wallpaper. But if you buy in a DIY supermarket the rolls tend to have printed on the label how long they are, so you could work it out from that.

Thanks vivandorron but it was more luck than judgement. Only just had a proper look at the link and it does seem to help a bit. The main thing I always look at is the batch number as I did a job for someone before who had bought paper with 5 different batch numbers and it was too far for them to take it back to change so I had to use different batch paper on each wall and even then you could see the difference, but as they insisted on using it I had no choice.

Batch numbers are most important and this is something which hammerman needs to bear in mind.

Just a thought on my part....It seems expensive paper that HM is purchasing at £20 per roll and he has said there is no pattern on it. I am assuming it must be a very good textured paper; which will be overpainted. In which case he needn't worry about actual batch numbers.
