I keep killing my Calla Lillies!

Help.  I keep following the information that I've gotten from the internet on how to care for a potted Calla Lillie that I keep in my living room.

From my research they have to be kept in a light spot but out of direct sunlight.  In terms of the watering, it's supposed to be watered whenever the top of the soil is dry to the touch.

The flowers bloom and then die much sooner than they're supposed to.
