Refurb oak coffee table

I have recently acquired a solid oak coffee table. Unfortunatly it has some 'spill marks' (juice/baby wipes etc.) Without a complete refurb is there anything which might remove these marks?

I have seen on TV using cigarette ash and a bit of water to make a paste,rubbing it on in small circles.Might just be worth a try!
