having a minor debate with a mate of mine who claims that to clean dishes with those yellow sponges with the green rough bit on is just scrub away with the green bit and the spong bit is just there to grip with....

i always wipe the bulk away with the sponge, then go for any tough bits with the green bit

- otherwise the green bit just gets ingrained with icky food straightaway and you cant rinse the green bit so easily, so shortens the life of the sponge

she says no-one uses them my way and that its nonsense...

now, THIS DOESNT REALLY MATTER TO EITHER OF US, AND IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER HOW YOU USE THE SPONGE AS LONG AS THE DISH IS CLEAN, so all the inevitable 'get a life' and, 'who cares' etc etc comments can be safely assumed to be pointless here.

i am just curious really, as i sort of assumed this was the point of have the 2 parts stuck together really...

so, how do you use yours? hehe

lol, oh go on, let us do the whole "is it really worth arguing over" bit :)

for what its worth i use both sides
Soak, then remove chunky stuff with green bit, then tidy up any residue with the sponge.
...or I just buy the green sheets, saves faffing about with the sponge getting smelly.
I do the same as you joko. Certainly can't agree that the sponge side is just to grip with.
Washing-up BRUSH, every time!

Can't get the hang of a brush..... can you make the next thread about toiket brushes please? - I am sure there are a lot of skills to be shared in the use of the lav brush.

but boxtops surely most of the stuff come off easily with a light wipe with the sponge and doesnt require a scrub...

the scrub is for the stubborn bits that the sponge cant manage...
You haven't seen my washing-up, joko......

when i was a student i knew someone who believed a toilet brush was for bashing up large poos that wouldnt flush...

i discovered he thought this the hard way ...haha bleurgh

ah. i assumed washing up was all generally the same for us all...
//Washing-up BRUSH, every time! //

Yes me too, then the scourer / sponge. Scourer bit for any really tough bits only as it does get clogged up.
Haven't washed dishes by hand for many years - when I did I used it as you friend does - always used scrubby side - yellow bit hand for gripping with. is it not scratchy on your hand to use it the other way round?
I just lick them and put them back in the cupboard...

haha love it!
I always use them like your mate, scrubby side to the dirt.
The only time I use the sponge side is when I'm cleaning our pans which aren't dishwasher safe and have a warning in the guarantee which says that if they are washed with nylon scourers then only the sponge side must be used otherwise the guarantee will become void.
If I ever do have to claim on the guarantee I'm pretty sure they'll put them under a microscope and then decide that scourers WERE used to wriggle out of replacing them.
Agree with you, joko.
