Sheep in garden

I awakened this morning to find about 30 sheep in my garden. A local farmer seems to have put them in my field, and they jumped over or rammed through the fence to get to my shrubs. I can't work out who it is! What are my rights? I can't put them on to the road and cause an accident. Help!

You could try calling the police. Farmers are responsible for their sheep and any damage caused.

You say that a local farmer 'seems to have put them in your field', so have you not been to ask him why he/she did this?

If this hasn't yet come to a satisfactory conclusion, I would do as ursula suggests & contact the police.

cassimer - As you can see, I treated Marge's question as a serious one & gave a sensible answer.

However, when I popped back to see if the matter had been concluded, I read the answers & thought they were very witty! I'm sure they were only meant in a light hearted way though! :0)

Perhaps you need some advice about the land registry.   I'm sure if you search this site you may find the link.  Alternatively, give Farmer Barleymow a bell.  Best of luck.

No idea who the farmer is, the sheep refuse to cooperate.The specific thing I was interested in has been brought up though...I did fear that I may have some responsibility to them. No free mutton chops then?

Someone put a pony in our garden once.  They found it trotting down the road and put it in our garden for safety and shut the gate.  It had a lovely time eating all the plants.  We knew who it belonged to so thought we would take it home but it refused to budge - it obviously was quite enjoying itself.

Sheep gone, thanks for all help. Fight started out among local farmers when culprit didn't want to move them. I just don't get these guys. Foot and mouth disease ? How about fist in mouth disease?
